G20 India Startup 20 Summit

The G20 India Startup20 Summit, held in Gurugram from 3-4 July 2023. The drafting of the communique was an arduous task, but it was accomplished thanks to the tireless efforts of many passionate individuals from the ecosystem.

During the event, Indonesia, India, and Brazil formed a trioka and passed on the baton to Brazil for next year’s presidency. Ms Ingrid Barth who represented Brazil, confirmed their commitment to continuing this engagement group.

Prof Tej Chingtham, CEO of AIC – SMU Technology Business Incubator, was also part of the grand launch of the Incubator Assessment Framework by the World Bank, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and AIM NITI Aayog. This framework will help incubators and ecosystem enablers globally to benchmark their strengths based on various KPIs.

One of AIC-SMUTBI’s incubatees, Augtraveler further showcased its portfolio of products at the event, which garnered keen interest from the Saudi Government.

The summit was graced by the honorable Minister for Commerce & Industries, Shri Piyush Goyal, as he addressed the delegates. His statement on the government being a facilitator rather than a regulator for startups was met with thunderous applause from the startup community. Shri Amitabh Kant, the Sherpa of G20 under the Indian presidency, highlighted India’s remarkable achievement of building the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem in just a few years, thanks to the strong and passionate players, including over 450 active incubators in the country.
